Edmonton Family Photo Session: Whitemud Ravine

This Edmonton family photo session captured this single mama and her two beautiful boys in YEG’s Whitemud Ravine. Our meet-up was filled with fun, snuggles, and love – and was perfectly relaxed and candid, which is my favourite type of session to have.

One thing that is important to know when you are looking for a photographer – is what kind of photos you are looking to receive. Do you like really formal and posed photos, and do you prefer photos where everyone is looking at the camera? While I always do a few of those types of photos, those aren’t what I specialise in. So if that was what you were looking for, I wouldn’t be the photographer for you! On the other hand, if you’re looking for relaxed, prompted, fun, candid photos – those are things that I absolutely love to try and capture.

I’ve known the gorgeous mama in this Edmonton family photo session since her she was pregnant with her oldest and I was only a preteen. Can you guess how we met?

She was my teacher in Jr. High (or as Americans like to call it – middle school). My entire class became utterly convinced she was expecting, but having been taught better, weren’t about to ask. And of course she seemingly waited as long as possible to officially announce her pregnancy to the entire school – if only just to tease us.

One of my favourite aspects of being a photographer is getting to connect with people. I get to capture the most important people and relationships in their lives, or more rarely, capture them on the most important days of their lives. Most of the connections I make are with people who are brand new to me – but there was something oh-so-special about getting to reestablish this connection with someone from long past.

Aren’t they oh so sweet?
