Flin Flon Wedding at the Cabin

This adorable Flin Flon wedding was a favourite of mine for a few reasons.

My dad is from a town with the weirdest name ever. Flin Flon (named after a comic book character named Josiah Flintabbatey Flonatin) is a town centred around a mine – with a giant stack forming its whole skyline – perched on top of a whole lot Canadian shield rock. The only people I meet who typically know where Flin Flon is located are geologists.

Aside from the mine, however, it is the land of a thousand lakes. Endless water and rocky shoreline and peace. We have a log cabin that is boat access only there. And it’s one of my favourite places in the world.

As such, when I get time to go in the summers, it becomes my mission to photograph a wedding there now too.

This wedding felt like it could have been my own. One where almost every guest had to travel in, but the bride wanted it so bad because the lake means so much to her. A ceremony at the lake on their family’s property. A stop on the rocks, and not shying away from the mine and its infrastructure.

This was the perfect little mining town wedding showing off exactly the beauty of Flin Flon.
